Device lifecycle management, end to end

Buy it, configure it, deliver it, support it, get it back, wipe it, and put it in the next person’s hands. That is the whole loop, and the value is in never losing track of where a device is in it.

The loop, in seven steps

Each of these is a service in its own right and most suppliers do one or two of them. The reason to have one partner do all seven is that the handovers between them are where devices and records get lost.

  • Source — buy the right machine in-country, with its accessories
  • Configure — enrol it in ABM and your MDM before it ships
  • Deliver — to the employee, hand-over photographed
  • Support — faults quoted, and nothing spent until you answer
  • Recover — collected at offboarding, booked in against its serial
  • Sanitise — erased to NIST SP 800-88, locks cleared, certificate issued
  • Redeploy or retire — graded, stored, and back out to the next hire

One record, from first day to last

Most companies track devices in two or three places that disagree: a procurement spreadsheet, an MDM console, and somebody’s memory of who has the spare. The disagreement is invisible until an employee leaves and nobody can say what they were issued.

GreyFusion keeps one record per device and every fact on it carries a date, a place and a person. Purchase, enrolment, delivery, custodian, status, condition grade, data state, lock state, accessories, storage, repairs and charges all read off the same record, so there is nothing to reconcile.

Warehousing between assignments

A device between two employees has to live somewhere dry, secure and accounted for. GreyFusion holds devices in Abuja and charges storage per device per 30-day period, which makes the cost of holding a machine explicit rather than buried — so the decision to hold, resell or retire is made with the number in front of you.

Repairs, decided by the owner

A fault produces a quote, and nothing is spent until the owner answers it. They can approve the repair, decline it, or defer the decision — and a decline still asks what should happen instead, because “no” without a disposition leaves a broken laptop on a shelf with no owner.

Questions we get asked

What does device lifecycle management include?
Procurement, configuration and MDM enrolment, delivery to the employee, support and repair, recovery at offboarding, data sanitisation, condition grading, storage between assignments, and reissue or disposal at end of life.
How is storage charged?
Per device per 30-day period. A period starts the day the device reaches the shelf, and any part of a period is a full period — so the cost is predictable and can be worked out in advance.
Can we see where our devices are?
Yes. Clients get a portal showing every device they own, its current status, its condition and its documents. It shows what was done, not what it cost GreyFusion to do it.
Can you take over a fleet that already exists?
Yes. Existing devices are booked in, checked for locks from a previous owner or tenant, graded, and brought onto the same record as anything bought afterwards.
